Research & Policy

Evidence-led insight shaping the future of work

The future of work is not a theory problem.

It is a design problem and one with direct consequences for productivity, employment, skills, social mobility and economic resilience.

Our work sits at the intersection of:

Primary Research

Real Organisational Practice

Policy and Regulation

We do not speculate about what might happen.
We analyse what is already happening, often invisibly, inside organisations.

Why research matters now

Most UK organisations are operating in a period of constraint:

  • rising employment costs
  • regulatory complexity
  • pressure on productivity
  • cautious hiring
  • accelerating AI adoption

At the same time, traditional models of work are quietly breaking down:

  • job descriptions no longer reflect reality
  • entry-level roles are disappearing
  • work is being automated without redesign
  • AI is introduced without governance or clarity

This creates two growing forms of hidden debt:

  • Labour debt – where people are misaligned to value creation
  • Technology debt – where automation creates fragility rather than resilience

Our research exists to surface these risks early and to provide practical pathways forward.

FusionWork™ Research Programme

FusionWork™ is a research-led framework examining how human and digital labour are already working together inside organisations.

Not as pilots.
Not as future plans.
But in day-to-day operations.

The research explores:

  • how work is actually being done
  • where AI is augmenting or displacing tasks
  • why traditional role design is failing
  • how outcomes-based work is emerging informally
  • where governance, skills and systems lag behind reality

Key insights from the research

  • The workforce is no longer just human
  • Over 90% of job descriptions do not reflect real work
  • Early careers roles are disappearing first
  • Productivity gains are uneven and fragile
  • HR and TA are absorbing disproportionate operational strain
  • Organisations are already operating in “FusionWork” without a guidebook

These insights formed the basis of the FusionWork White Paper, launched at the Houses of Parliament in early 2026.

Policy & Parliamentary Engagement

From research to real-world change

From research to real-world change

Our research directly informs public policy conversations around:

  • modern employment models
  • AI governance and workforce design
  • early careers and youth employment
  • fairness, access and social mobility
  • the future of PAYE and employment taxation

This work is supported through active contribution to the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Modern Employment, ensuring that evidence from real organisations feeds into policy discussion, not just ideology.

We believe policy must reflect how work is actually evolving, not how it existed in the industrial era.

From research to real-world change

Unlike traditional think-tank research, our work is explicitly designed to be applied.

Research insights directly inform:

  • Executive briefings
  • Workforce and operating model design
  • HR and Talent transformation
  • Early careers programme redesign
  • Ethical and sustainable AI adoption

This creates a continuous loop:

research → insight → application → evidence → policy

Who we work with

From research to real-world change

Who we work with

Our research and policy work engages with:

  • Senior HR and People leaders
  • CFOs and Finance leaders
  • CIOs and Technology leaders
  • Public and third-sector organisations
  • Housing, education and infrastructure bodies
  • Boards and executive committees

We are frequently invited to:

  • Brief leadership teams
  • Contribute to roundtables
  • Present research findings
  • Advise on workforce implications of AI

Our role

We are not lobbyists.
We are not futurists for hire.
And we are not selling a predetermined solution.

Our role is to:

  • surface uncomfortable truths early
  • translate complexity into clarity
  • connect policy, practice and people
  • help organisations redesign work responsibly

The organisations that thrive in the next decade will be those that understand how work is changing before it breaks.

Current research themes

  •  FusionWork™: Human + Digital Labour
  • Outcome-based work and operating models
  • Early careers and youth employment
  • Labour and technology debt
  • Workforce sustainability and governance
  • Ethical AI adoption

We also host a select group of C-Suite Executives who make up our Mutable Enterprise & Research Council.
